Youth Weight Training
Ages 12 to 14 years
It is important to provide our youth with the knowledge and resources they need in order to become confident kids today and healthier, happier grown-ups tomorrow. In addition to the many youth classes we offer, we also give teens the opportunity to master the skill of weight training. They are given the chance to learn the safest and most effective ways to train using the weight lifting machines available in the fitness center. A member of the Y staff will walk them through the center while explaining the benefits of each piece of equipment while offering suggestions and guidance on how to use it.
Members between the ages of 12 and 14 are required to take Youth Weight Training before being granted access to the fitness center. You can register for this free class at any time at the Member Information Center.
Members who have previously completed the class are asked to check in at the fitness center check in desk located at the entrance of the fitness room. Upon check in, each teen will be given a lanyard that is to be worn while in the fitness center. If a staff member is not currently stationed at the desk, children are required to sign the weight training book, write their lanyard number down and begin their workout. Once finished, the lanyard should be returned and initialed showing it was returned. The lanyard is worn in placement of the membership card and sticker that was previously worn to show completion of the course. This will serve as their ticket to the fitness center until age 15.
