BASIC FIRST AID

GROUP OR FAMILY CLASSROOM TRAINING | $150

Learn how to provide Basic First Aid in a group setting of up to 10 participants. If you are located in the Norman area, we can bring the training to you for an extra 62.5 cents per mile.

PRIVATE/SEMI-PRIVATE CLASSROOM TRAINING | $55

Learn how to provide Basic First Aid care in a private or semi-private setting. Participants must be 12 and over.

CPR/BLS

CLASSROOM TRAINING | $55

This course teaches healthcare professionals the critical skills of high-quality CPR, recognition of life-threatening emergencies, how to use an AED, and choking relief in adult, child and infant situations. This course can be taught as ASHI or AHA program upon request.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will be practicing skills that require working on your hands and knees (bending, standing, and lifting.) If you have physical conditions that might prevent you from participating in the course, please tell one of the instructors when you arrive for class. The instructor will work to accommodate your needs within the stated course completion requirements. In the event that you are ill, please notify your instructor to reschedule your training.

BLOOD-BORNE PATHOGENS

This is a workplace integrated training program designed for those with an occupational requirement to safely handle potentially infectious material.

YASA

Y AQUATIC SAFETY ASSISTANT | $110 (Late Registration fee: $20)

For youth ages 14+

This course presents the skills needed to prevent and recognize aquatic risks as well as assist lifeguards in emergency situations. Participants will become certified in CPR/BLS, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration upon completion of this course. This course is highly recommended for fitness instructors and back yard pool owners. If you would like to receive a Lifeguard Certification after you have received a YASA Certification, you will only need to take a portion of the Lifeguard Certification Course.

WHAT TO BRING

  • “On the Guard, the YMCA Lifeguard Manual” the 2016 edition (YPSAQ0499) is available for $33 through the Y Program Store. Call 1-800-747-0089 or go to ymcaprogramstore.com to order.

  • Swimsuit, pen, paper and photo ID

  • Extra towels and warm clothing if you tend to chill quickly

RE-CERTIFICATION

Must be current in YASA and attend the first two days of class for re-certification.

COURSE PRE-REQUISITES

Pass the following physical competency requirements conducted on the first day of class:

Phase 1:

  • Tread Water

  • Sprint 100 yards of front crawl

Phase 2:

  • In shallow water sprint for a distance of 20’, then perform an arm-over-arm surface dive in 4’-6’ of water.

  • Pick up an object from the bottom of the pool, surface, tread water for at least 1 minute and replace the object back to the bottom of the pool

  • Swim the remaining length to the end of the pool and hoist yourself out of the water.

  • Immediately begin compression of the chest of an adult mannequin for 1 minute/100 compressions; stand and listen to directions from the instructor.

 

LIFEGUARDS

YMCA LIFEGUARD V6 CERTIFICATION | $270

For ages 16+

This course prepares participants with the knowledge and skills needed to be a lifeguard in various environments. You will learn how to guard, anticipate and prevent problems, take action and help those in danger. It covers safety skills such as: spinal injury management, weather, water dangers, legal responsibilities and pool management.

Cost includes: lifeguard book, CPR/BLS, First Aid, Oxygen Administration and Safety Courses. 100% attendance is required. Payment must be made prior to first day of class. No refunds given after attending the first day of class.

Registration must be received 5 days prior to the first class due to online pre-course work.

LIFEGUARD RE-CERTIFICATION | $110

This course renews the skills needed to be a lifeguard in any aquatic setting. You will remember how to guard, anticipate problems, prevent problems and take action to help those in danger. Must attend the first 3 days of a Lifeguard Certification course and complete the same prerequisites.

LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTORS

YMCA LIFEGUARD V6 INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION | $300

For ages 18+

This 27 hour course is designed to provide the necessary tools and knowledge to instruct the Lifeguard Certification & YASA courses. You will also learn to instruct CPR/BLS, First Aid and Oxygen Administration.

Cost Includes: YMCA Lifeguard Instructor Guide, CPR/BLS, First Aid and Oxygen Administration. No refunds given after attending the first day of class.

SESSION AVAILABILITY

Registration must be made at least 10 days prior to the first course due to online pre-requisite requirements and course work. 100% attendance is required and payment must be made prior to first day of class.

WHAT TO BRING

Bring a bathing suit, towel, resuscitation mask, mask snorkel, proof of age and proof of pre-requisite certifications.

*Instructor crossover candidates need to complete the ASHI CPR BLS, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration. These courses will be sent upon registering & paying for the course and eLearning courses. Courses can be found on the YMCA exchange website - you must go to “My Account” and login. Orientation Training & Adult Learning Concept courses cost $20, paid directly to Y-USA. Accommodations on the basis of disability are available by contacting Stephanie Settle at least 5 days prior to class.

COURSE PRE-REQUISITES

  • Minimum age of 18 by the last day of the scheduled course

  • All candidates must show proof; “a letter” from a sponsoring YMCA to take the course. Send the letter to settle@ymcanorman.org 5 days in advance.

  • Complete the Online Orientation Training on yexchange.org. Cost $20 (non-refundable)

  • Complete the Adult Learning Concepts Online Training on yexchange.org.

  • Cost $20 (non-refundable)

  • Hold Current YMCA Lifeguard Certification

  • Hold Current CPR Pro, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Certification

  • Complete the Physical Competency Requirements and rescue skills

  • Complete the Y Lifeguard eLearning courses found on http://training.ymca.net/lifeguard
