Basic First Aid

Learn first-aid skills such as treating cuts, scrapes, and burns; controlling bleeding; treating injuries to bones, muscles, and joints; and caring for shock. Please register in advance at the member information center. Participants must be 12 years or older.

Safety First Aquatics

This course encourages youth safety in aquatics. This hour and a half class is designed for 7-13 year olds. Groups of 2-10 students may register with at least one participating adult required per group. Students will learn about responding to an emergency, staying safe, universal pre-cautions, reaching assist, extension assist, throwing assist, walking assist, swim test & beginning swim test.

By appointment only at times convenient for you and your family of up to 10 participants. Class includes game-based CPR skills practice system and uses interactive music, video and other game-related concepts to create a compelling training experience ideal for today’s learners.

Lifeguard Certification V6

This course prepares participants with the knowledge and skills needed to be a lifeguard in various environments. This certification offers information on how to guard, anticipate and prevent problems and take action to help those in danger. It covers safety skills such as spinal injury management, weather, water dangers, legal responsibilities, pool management and information on how to obtain employment as a lifeguard.

Contact Stephanie Settle prior to registering for more information about the pre-work and pre-requisite requirements. Registration must be received 5 days prior to the first course due to online pre-course work.

100% attendance is required and participants must pre-register. Payment must be made prior to first day of class. There will not be any refunds given after attending the first day of class. Participants must be at least 16 years old by the last class day.

To become re-certified for up to two years, lifeguards must be current in first aid, CPR/BLS and Oxygen and attend the first 3 days of a lifeguard certification class.

YASA Certification V6 - Y Aquatics Safety Assistants

This course presents the knowledge and skills needed to both help prevent and recognize aquatic risks and to assist a lifeguard in the emergency response to an accident and injury. This basic aquatic safety course is highly recommended for fitness instructors and back yard pool owners. Participants will also be certified in American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) courses: CPR BLS, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration upon successful completion of this course. If you would also like to receive Lifeguard Certification after you have received YASA Certification, you will only have to take a portion of the Lifeguard Certification course.

This 27 hours course provides necessary training and information for participants to certify YMCA lifeguards and YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistants (YASA.)

  • Minimum age of 18 by the last day of the scheduled course

  • Complete the Online Orientation Training on yexchange.org. Cost $20 (non-refundable)

  • Complete the Adult Learning Concepts Online Training on yexchange.org.

  • Hold Current YMCA Lifeguard certification

  • Hold Current CPR Pro, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Certification

  • Complete the Physical Competency Requirements and rescue skills

  • Complete the Y Lifeguard eLearning courses found on http://training.ymca.net/lifeguard

*Instructor crossover candidates need to complete the ASHI CPR BLS, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration. These courses will be sent upon registering & paying for the course and eLearning courses. Courses can be found on the YMCA exchange website - you must go to “My Account” and login. Orientation Training & Adult Learning Concept courses cost $20, paid directly to Y-USA.
